Captured on 35mm film during ModaLisboa 2011, Runway documents a fleeting moment backstage before a Filipe Faísca show.
At the time, I was often more interested in the details surrounding an event than in the event itself. While the audience was waiting for the show to begin, my attention drifted towards the models gathered backstage. The repetition of legs, heels and colour created something that felt unexpectedly choreographed - closer to a ballet waiting in the wings than to a fashion show.

Captured on 35mm film backstage during a fashion show, Rush Hour documents a brief moment of anticipation before everything begins.
Fashion shows are often remembered for what happens on the runway. I was usually drawn to what happened just outside it. The waiting, the conversations, the nervous energy, the temporary communities that formed behind the scenes. In this image, the crowding of figures into a narrow frame creates a sense of movement and urgency, despite the fact that everyone is just standing still.

Captured in London, this photograph began with a simple observation.
Beautiful, elegant, and almost chaotic, the swans seemed to dissolve into one another. The scene felt strangely representative of the city itself: ordered yet chaotic.
